„THROUGH THEIR EYES, THROUGH OURS. RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT DEVELOPMENT PROBLEMS FACED BY WOMEN FROM DEVELOPING COUNTRIES IN THE EU EASTERN NEIGHBOURHOOD, BALKANS AND CENTRAL ASIA." The project Through Their Eyes, Through Ours. Raising public awareness about development problems faced by women from developing countries in the EU Eastern Neighbourhood, Balkans and Central Asia is a three year project (march 2008 – march 2011) implemented by KARAT with partners from Belgium (WIDE), Georgia (Gender Media Caucasus Association), Germany (WOMNET), Macedonia (Permaculture and Peacebuilding Centre PPC Shtip) and Slovakia (Center for Communication and Development). The goal of the project is to raise public awareness in the EU, and particularly in New Member States (NMS) from Central and Eastern Europe about the development problems faced by women in the developing neighbouring countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Balkans. The project has been produced with the assistance of the European Union. KARAT is a lead organization therefore the project is directly related to the gender and development program of the Coalition. KARAT is ensuring that the project will not only meet the goal mentioned above but will also strengthen the links between gender focused organization (including KARAT members) from NMS states and other Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) countries. This will be achieved through producing and presenting information in the form of an art exhibition and awareness raising materials addressing socio- economic problems faced by women from Albania, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The objective of the awareness raising materials is to undermine the existing stereotypes associated with socio- economic problems experienced by women from the above countries, and to mobilise public support in the EU for gender-sensitive strategies and policies for development. Photography exhibitionThe first exhibition of photographs “Through Their Eyes” combined with the selection of winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize was held in Warsaw on 23rd of January 2009. In 2009 the exhibition will be also held in Slovakia and Germany and in 2010 it will be shown in Brussels. If you are interested in having the exhibition shown in organisation/institution/firm etc or at any event organised by your organisation/institution/firm we are more than happy to cooperate.
